About

Sooz has worked in the equine industry for over 20 years. She started her career in a very traditional way. Gaining British Horse Society qualifications and working in riding schools. After a short break to have children she went on to become a freelance coach and achieved her BHS Senior Coaching Certificate and her Stable Managers qualification. Since then, she has continued to further her education with a Franklin Ball trainer certificate and is a fully certified member of the International Association of Animal Behaviourists (IAABC) and is registered as an accredited animal behaviourist with the ANimal Behaviour and Training Council (ABTC). She has worked with hundreds, of horse and rider combinations along with starting and training a multitude of horses and ponies for herself, her children and her clients. She has competed in British Dressage up to Elementary level priding herself on riding ‘normal’ horses, including a Fell Pony and a Connemara.

Her interest in equine behaviour began with a pony called Millie. Millie was bought to produce and sell but it soon became apparent that she had serious fear issues, mainly a fear of humans. Whilst no longer owned by Sooz, Millie inspired her to discover how to help horses and ponies in a way that her traditional training background couldn’t.

Sooz works under LIMA protocols - Least Intrusive Minimally Aversive - and always puts the wellbeing of the horse and human first. Her extensive experience in working with riders, owners and their equines allows her to take an holistic approach to problem behaviours and she understands that everybody has limitations – whether that be time, facilities or experience. She is able to adjust her training to suit human and horses individual needs. She can help with a variety of issues both ridden and on the ground and is also able to offer ridden tuition through a behaviour and biomechanical lens.

Sooz partakes in regular CPD ensuring she stays up to date with new developments in the world of equine behaviour and also to keep her skills up as a trainer.
